Telangana live : Lok Sabha passes bill by voice vote amid din; Hyderabad to be joint capital for 10 yrs

4:55pm: YSR Congress supremo Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was fasting in the Capital yesterday against the bifurcation of Andhra, slammed the passage of the bill and said that it was a “black day for India”.

4:40pm: Lok Sabha passes Telangana Bill by voice vote amid massive uproar.

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the much-debated Telangana Bill by voice vote amid massive protests by anti-Telangana MPs. Chaos was the order of the day as several MPs earlier suspended for resorting to fierce protests over the separate statehood of Telangana tried to enter the House and disrupt the proceedings.



TV reports said that Hyderabad will be the joint capital for Seemandhra and Telangana for ten years till new capital gets created.

The Centre, unfazed by vehement protests, moved the controversial bill on Tuesday for consideration and passage in the Lower House.

Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde moved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2014 for consideration even though ministers and MPs from Seemandhra region trooped into the Well of the House opposing bifurcation of the state.

4:15pm: Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and Nitish Kumar’s JD-U walkout from the Parliament as voting on amendments in the bill is underway.

3:45pm: Lok Sabha voting on amendments in Telangana Bill. As many as 62 amendments are expected to be made in the bill.

The Speaker of the Lower House has ordered that the live telecast of Lok Sabha be stopped. Reports however say the bill is being passed amid massive uproar.

2.13 pm: BSP supremo Mayawati says she supports bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh while demanding division of Uttar Pradesh into four more states.
