Coming soon to India: Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and budget Xperia G

Sony is importing thousands of Xperia Z1 unit to India. It seems the handset is set to launch in India, before holi.

Last year the Xperia Z flagship launched in India just before the colour festivel (Holi) in India. This time we can expect a new phone around the same time to cash on the holiday season sale. According to a tweet from @abhijeetnaohate in which he tweeted a screenshot of the import of Sony mobile number D5503 in Black, Pink, While and Lime colour into India. D5503 is the model number of Xperia Z1 Compact.

The company is also expected to launch the successor of Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia T2 Ultra in the India soon. This handset was launched at the CES this year and is expected to come to India soon.

That’s not all. The company will be launching a budget handset named Xperia G in India. The new handset is the company’s first budget smartphone for India this year. Last year it launched the Xperia C with a MediaTek processor inside. It will not come as a surprise if Sony goes for a similar low-cost processor for its budget offering.

An image of the handset was tweeted by Vizileaks last week. There is no other information available on the Xperia G currently. “Chances are the Sony Xperia G will be unveiled at the MWC, which starts on February 24,” says GSMArena. The handset meant for developing markets like India will take the competition forward from Xperia C and is expected to land soon in India, to take the battle forward in budget smartphone segment.
