Specs revealed: Water-proof Canvas Splash can become the game changer for Micromax

On the 16th February the Micromax leakster posted a render of the upcoming water and dust proof phone from Micromax, the Canvas Splash. The only spec that were visible from the pics Android OS and 5 megapixel primary camera with led flash. Today we are getting some more details about this upcoming new phone.

The Canvas Splash will sport a 4.5 inch display with a display resolution of 960 x 540 pixels display resolution, according to sourced s of Mobigyaan. The phone is expected to be powered by a low-end 1 GHz dual core processor along with just 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. You can expect expandable memory though the amount of this is yet to be known. According to the source, the phone will also sport a front vga camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and 1760 mAh battery pack. The handset can be immersed into the water up to 1 meter deep for a maximum of 30 minutes because of its IP67 certification.

Looking at the specs it does sound disappointing. If Micromax decides to place this handset in the market at an appropriate price point, it could become a game changer for the company, giving it a lead in this segment also. The Indian market has very little competition in water-proof mobile devices segment, led by Sony's Xperia water-proof phones. If priced below Rs. 10000 this Micromax handset might perform good in the market.

We can expect the phone to launch before Holi, giving customers a new budget option this year. Indeed smart move by Micromax!
