Kelly Brook `hurt` by ex lover

British model-actress Kelly Brook says that she was "hurt and humilated" with her ex lover David Mcintosh as she feels that he was hungry for fame.

According to sources, the model thinks that McIntosh was "using" her and was more interested in getting fame, reports contactmusic.com.

"Kelly thinks David has been using her. She felt hurt and humiliated when she began to realise he was more interested in fame than he was in her. He was desperate to be in the papers and she kicked him out as soon as she realised that. She immediately deleted any evidence of them being together on her online profiles," a source told Bang Showbiz.

Sources suggest that McIntosh had alerted photographers when they were on a romantic holiday.

Affleck not scary enough for Batman

Affleck not scary enough for Batman

It seems Seth Green is not pleased with the idea of Ben Affleck playing Batman in "Superman-Batman", a sequel of "Man of Steel". He says the actor is not "scary" enough to play the Caped Crusader.

The 40-year-old insisted that Affleck going head-to-head with Superman Henry Cavill in the upcoming film will not be convincing.

According to contactmusic.com, Green said in an interview: "You've got to remember that at the core of that character, Batman's a crazy person. Batman has no powers. Batman is a rich, screwed-up kid whose parents were killed in front of him, who with his money and insanity decided to become a vigilante symbol to combat darkness."

"If this movie is meant to be the idealistic alien, humans-before-all-else Superman, and this is supposed to be the grizzled, weathered Batman who's been living in Gotham, fighting crime himself for 10 years, you need a guy who's older. You need a guy who's got more weight. And you need a guy that a Henry Cavill Superman is gonna be actually scared of," he added.

Movie Review: 'Pompeii', a visual spectacle

Movie Review: `Pompeii`, a visual spectacle

Cast: Kit Harington, Emily Browning, Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akkinnuoye-Agbaje, Jessica Lucas and Kiefer Sutherland;

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson;

Rating: ***1/2 A historical drama based on the ill-fated Roman city of the same name, director Paul W.S. Anderson's "Pompeii" is a far cry from Robert Harris' 2003 novel. Yet, the film is distinct and appealing. It's a revenge drama with a tinge of romance and dollops of natural disaster.

The film begins eerily with the camera drooling over fossilized bodies. The stoned images, gruesome and weather-beaten, are accompanied by a quote - "In the darkness some prayed for help, others for death," attributed to Pliny the Younger". It claims it is accurate as far as the history and politics of Pompeii at that time.

Set in 79 AD,, the film dismisses the plot of the novel and invents its own set of main characters. It follows Milo (Kit Harington), a "Celta slave. He is the last surviving member of his tribe, The Horsemen."

As a young child, Milo survived the massacre by being dumped beneath the corpses while he watched his mother and his entire tribe being slaughtered by the corrupt Roman General Corvus (Kiefer Sutherland) and his Aide Proculus (Sasha Roiz).

Seventeen years later, the boy, trained to be a deadly gladiator, is the star performer at the arena in Londinium, the capital of Britanny. Soon his greedy master packs him off to the city of Pompeii to serve as violent entertainment for its blood-hungry citizens.

En route to Pompeii, by pure happenstance Milo meets and creates an impression on Cassia (Emily Browning), the non-conformist daughter of the town chief Severus (Jared Harris) and his wife Aurelia (Carrie-Anne Moss), who's heading back home after spending a rather turbulent year in Rome.

Meanwhile, Corvus too lands in Pompeii as the Senator of the Emperor Titus and is the deciding factor for investments from Rome. He craftily gets Severus to hand over his daughter in marriage to him.

Milo arrives in Pompeii on the eve of the Vinalia festival and is flaunted to the citizens. The next day, he is expected to fight the local champion - a massive black slave named Atticus (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) who is nearly one last death-match away from earning his freedom.

With deadly sword fights in the gladiator's arena, the love triangle, inclusive of horse chases and the rumbling Vesuvius followed by a killer tsunami, gives thrust to the narration that keeps you spell-bound and glued to your seat.

As far as the performances are concerned, there is nothing extraordinary. The characters are immediately recognizable as sympathetic or not, and on the whole, there is not very much complexity in character development.

Though the romance could be generic and the gladiator fights seem to be borrowed lavishly from films like "Gladiator" and "The Legend of Hercules", there is some freshness in the action set pieces. The sword fights as well as the chases are well devised and choreographed.

The script by Janet Scott Batchler, Lee Batchler and Michael Robert Johnson, is crisp and focused. The tension is carefully and precisely mounted to construct the doomsday effect. Though the event is predictable, the look and feel of Glen MacPherson's visuals in 3D is enchanting. They beautifully merge with computer generated special effects of the volcanic eruption, the tsunami and the submerging of the land.

What also makes this film remarkable, is that Anderson has managed to cut bird's-eye view wide-angle lens shots with tight close-ups with equal ease, thereby making the action-packed portions seems razor sharp and participatory.

The film is worth a watch for being a grand visual spectacle.

Movie Review: 'The Monuments Men', a monumental mess

Movie Review: `The Monuments Men`, a monumental mess

Cast: George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, Cate Blanchett and Dimitri Leonidas;

Director: George Clooney;

Rating: ** After the recent "Lone Survivor" and "RoboCop", here is another film that throws hues of American glorification. This time, in a war movie that includes a treasure hunt, "The Monumental Men" is the sympathetic account of the US-led effort to save and preserve the treasures looted by the Nazis, who are bent on destroying them as they retreat in defeat.

Based on a true story and adapted from the bestselling book by Robert M. Edsel, the film reveals the factual adventures of a group of art historians, architects and artists who outmanoeuvre the Nazis from amassing the masterpieces for Adolf Hitler's planned Fuhrer Museum.

The narration begins with art historian Frank Stokes (Clooney) being tasked with putting together an unconventional group. He recruits a platoon of crack treasure hunters, who are a jolly good bunch known to have their way with words and daredevil attitude.

The team includes a prudish art expert James Granger (Matt Damon), a famous architect Richard Campbell (Bill Murray), sculptor Walter Garfield (John Goodman), French art dealer Jean Claude Clermont (Jean Dujardin), art historian Preston Savitz (Bob Balaban) and British artist-cum-soldier Donald Jeffries (Hugh Bonneville). They are joined by a sprightly youngster, Sam Epstein (Dimitri Leonidas), a German Jew who helps the team as a translator and drives them around.

Once the team decodes a Nazi map, they realize that most of the loot is hidden in mines across Germany. So it all boils down to a race between the Monuments Men and the Nazis, who would burn Picassos rather than have them fall into Allied hands, as well as the Russians, who consider it blood money.

The race is less suspenseful than it is self-sacrificing, inspiring and humane. Awkwardly straddling between immersive realism and carefully set-dressed theatricality, writer-director Clooney fails to inject dramatic tension into this well-intended saga. There is simply none and the actors plod from one pointless scene to the next.

Told in a manner as it happens with vignettes of scenes that takes place all over Europe, the narration shuffles from Ghent in Belgium to Paris to Milan to Normandy, to Saint-Lo in France to Ramagen in Germany to Merkers to Heilborne Mines in Germany to Buges -- not settling in any one place in particular for long.

The performances of the A-List cast, most of whom are Oscar winners, are lacklustre.

Cate Blanchett as the tight-lipped Parisian curator Clare Simone, gives the most edge to her role, but even her character is held back a bit in her dealings with Damon's honorable portrayal.

Funnymen Murray and Goodman work within a restrained range for them, while Damon, Balaban, Dujardin and the others are fine, but do not bring anything new to the table. Clooney, on the other hand, has the best monologues.

Visually, cinematographer Phedon Papamichael's composition is very classical, making every frame picture-perfect. This would not have been possible without the fantastic contribution of production designer Jim Bissell and costume designer Louise Frogley. Also, Alexandre Desplat's back-ground score elevates the viewing experience.

But unfortunately, the entire experience with characters talking, smoking and looking at paintings and repeating the entire drill again and again gets a bit tedious. It's only during the latter half, when action is pumped into the scene does it make the narration interesting, but by then it's too late.

For action fans, "The Monuments Men" would be a big disappointment, but it may appeal to history and art lovers.

Vipul Shah's Title Tussle With Pooja Bhatt Intensifies

Vipul Shah`s Title Tussle With Pooja Bhatt Intensifies

Apparently Pooja is all set to initiate legal action against Vipul and his co-producers UTV for the alleged infringement of copyright . Vipul has used the title Holiday which Pooja claims belongs to her. But Vipul protests he not only revised the original title he also got it approved by the Indian Motion Pictures' Producers(IMPPA).

Explains Pooja, `Vipul Shah wrote to me asking for the title Holiday. I said no. He approached the Film & Television Producers' Guild Of India. The Guild rejected his application. He then went to IMPPA and registered the same title with a tagline attached. I want to know, why should I bother to become a member of any of the film associations, pay them for the privilege, register and re-register my titles for a fee and still get copyright-challenged by any producer who wants to take my title? It's like paying hafta and still being beaten up.`

Pooja wants the film associations to get their act together and their procedures in place. `A producer like Vipul Shah exploits a loophole in a rotten, outdated system where the film associations violate one another's rules and interests and then pass on the buck.`

Pooja says she took UTV , IMPPA and Association Of Motion Pictures And Television Programme producers (AMPTPP) to court for an earlier alleged copyright infringement. `I took them to court over my title Thank You which they used unscrupulously. In fact this matter will be listed in the High Court in the next few weeks. My title Holiday remains registered till 2016. And yet if someone else can use it what is the point of film associations?`

Coincidentally both the title wars that Pooja Bhatt faced involved projects starring Akshay Kumar.

Says Pooja, `This is not a personal Pooja Bhatt Versus Akshay Kumar fight. It involves a much larger issue.`

Counters Vipul Shah, `Pooja thinks I've used the title when I don't have it. This isn't true.I had requested her to give me title Holiday. She did not and I had to go for the title Holiday-A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.I've gone through the legal process and got it registered. Only then have I used it. Pooja should be taking on IMPPA who gave me the title.`

Good time for women in Bollywood, says Madhuri Dixit

Good time for women in Bollywood, says Madhuri Dixit

Lauding "Gulaab Gang" director Soumik Sen for scripting a woman-centric film, actress Madhuri Dixit Friday here acknowledged that women have risen to prominence in the film industry and are essaying diverse roles from scripting to direction.

Madhuri also noted the changing trend of directors perceiving women in unconventional roles.

"I see lot of women in script-writing, lot of women directing movies, so I think the women have not only been relegated to those jobs considered women's jobs like say hair-dresser or an actress - these were the only two women seen on the set but today we see a lot of them and that is what is happening," she told the media here while promoting "Gulaab Gang".

"Gulaab Gang" is directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Anubhav Sinha. The film also features Huma Qureshi and Juhi Chawla.

"There is an emergence of new sensibilities - directors like Soumik who write films for women who have that respect and different way of looking at women and we are fortunate to have such directors to write scripts for us and this is a great time for women and films in general," she said.

The actress highlighted the film's relevance as it deals burning topics related to women's rights.

"I never imagined a film with both roles, good and evil both being played by women... I think that's wonderful and of course it's so relevant in today's time. You see, you look around what's happening in Delhi and Mumbai.... women's safety and there are so many issues that have come to light about how women are treated in society and I thought this was the right time for a film like this to be made because it talks of women's empowerment," she said.

"It talks about educating women and this has been written by a man and I am optimistic that there will be a time when the way a man looks at a woman will change and it is already happening," she explained, adding that women must be taught self-defence.

'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' has no similarity with my real life: Farhan Akhtar

`Shaadi Ke Side Effects` has no similarity with my real life: Farhan Akhtar

Actor Farhan Akhtar's forthcoming film "Shaadi Ke Side Effects" portrays how an Indian husband yearns to have the life of a single man even after marriage, but he says the plot has no "similarity" with his real life.

In an interview, Farhan gets down to talking about the comedy movie, which stars Vidya Balan, and also about his future projects:

Excerpts from the interview:
"Shaadi Ke Side Effects" (SKSE) is a completely contrasting world from "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" (BMB)?
Oh absolutely. And you can see the difference in the way I promote the two films. A certain mood of fun and dance has crept into the promotion of SKSE. Of course, we danced while promoting BMB, but it would been unfair and disrespectful to make light of Milkha Singh-ji's life and struggle during the marketing of BMB. SKSE is a more fun-oriented film.
SKSE too has a serious message?
I wouldn't say it has a serious message. But it has a heart. It's a heart-warming experience. It's about how the Indian husband yearns to have the life of a single man even after marriage.
Some mediapersons try to connect the film with your own marriage. Is that an embarrassment?
It isn't an embarrassment. But it is unnecessary. I am playing a role in SKSE. I am playing a character in the film. There is no similarity with my real life.

And Vidya Balan...what was it like working with her?
To begin with, she's a tremendous actress. So natural, grounded and so uncomplicated. It was a pleasure to be around her. It was a true joy to work with her. We had optimum time together since most of the screen time is shared between us. I'd say we've developed a friendship during the course of the shooting.

Did you know her before this film?
No,before shooting the film, we didn't know each other at all. And I don't open up easily to people I am not close to. But the need of the hour was to develop a compatibility. And I did just that. And I didn't regret it at all.

Did the ice between the two of you break immediately?
The first thing I noticed about Vidya was that she laughed a lot. She has an infectious laughter. When she laughs, you feel like laughing along. Then we started hanging out together. We shared quite a few laughs. Within the first two days, we began feeling comfortable with one another.

What next?
I start Zoya's film in May. I am with Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma.

Interesting cast?
That's Zoya for you. We'll be shooting in the open sea.

I hope you're not seasick?

New rules needed for women's safety, urges Madhuri

New rules needed for women`s safety, urges Madhuri

Actress Madhuri Dixit, who plays an empowered woman in her forthcoming "Gulaab Gang", believes that in order to ensure women's safety, the government should form policies that are in sync with time.

Responding to questions from the media here Friday while talking about her character Rajjo, a "crusader and empowered woman", Madhuri also batted for educating men.

"I don't have those kind of information, the political knowledge and information but of course, they have to make the new agenda, they have to do everything new, they have to look at society today and then make rules accordingly," she said at an event to promote "Gulaab Gang".

"Men should also be educated because education leads to information and it also changes perception about others," she said.

"Gulaab Gang" is directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Anubhav Sinha. The film also features Huma Qureshi and Juhi Chawla.

Madhuri revealed she channelised her angst towards society for bringing Rajjo to life. The way her character stands up against injustice on screen, Madhuri said, should happen in real life.

"Well I didn't have to work very hard, because there are a lot of things you read about, you hear and I think everybody feels that anger because of everything that's happening in the society....

"All I had to do is direct that anger and channelise it and say this is what the character 'Rajjo' stands for and this is what should happen in the country and this what I want to see happening with the women here.

"I just wanted to channelise the energy and 'Rajjo' was born," she said.

"Gulaab Gang" is scheduled for a March 7 release.

Real-life drama revealed : `Bewakoofiyan` based on true events?

The tragic story of the Kingfisher employee who lost his wife and job, may be the inspiration behind upcoming film 'Bewakoofiyan' starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor

Promos of Ayushmann Khurrana's upcoming film, Bewakoofiyaan, show him as an official with an airline company who loses his job due to retrenchment. Sources are now linking this plot to a real-life situation that took place some years ago. It seems that Ayushmann's character is inspired by the life of one of the scores of employees of Kingfisher Airlines who were fired some years ago. The film is apparently centred around this character and the problems he faced post his loss of job.

One of the promos currently on air hints that the film touches upon all that happened to the employees after they were thrown out of their jobs by the airline. A source close to the unit says, `Kingfisher's retrenchment saw thousands of people lose their jobs. This was followed by widespread protests across India. Even in the film, there's a scene where a lot of employees are shown protesting and going on hunger strikes.`

When contacted, a spokesperson for the film confirmed that the film's character derives inspiration from real-life.

`Ayushmann Khurrana's character works in an airline office and he then loses his job,` says the spokesperson.

Releasing on March 7, a day prior to International Women’s Day, Gulaab Gang talks about women empowerment. On her film’s character Rajjo, she said, “A lot of her beliefs are my beliefs too.”

Produced by Anubhav Sinha, the film has Juhi Chawla in a negative role as a power-hungry politician.
