Ugly scenes in Lok Sabha leaves Railway Minister's granddaughter disappointed

New Delhi: "Why are they not letting grandpa speak"? asked Prarthana, the young granddaughter of union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge as the minister made desperate attempts to continue with his interim Rail Budget speech in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday amidst noise. Kharge had to cut short his maiden Rail Budget speech in just 20 minutes due to disruptions by Telangana and Seemandhra MPs in the Lok Sabha. Kharge has been holding the railway portfolio for the past eight months and he had to literally scream to be heard amidst slogans and noise.

The Kharge clan -- his wife Radhabai Kharge, son Milind, daughters Priyadarshini and Jayshree, and granddaughter Prarthana  -  were there in attendance to see the minister make his maiden Rail Budget speech.  Draped in their silk fineries Kharge's wife and daughters appeared quiet elated when Kharge stood up to make his speech. But most excited was the young Prarthana who was all smiles to see her grandpa reading out the speech. But soon she appeared confused. Probably still very young to understand the politics of Telangana and the functioning of Parliament, for this youngster it was something like a classroom in disorder.

Seated right opposite Kharge in the visitor's gallery the family was hoping the show could go on for a while. "What is happening?" Prarthana asked again and before she could be given a satisfactory answer it was all over. Her voice got drowned in the din the way her grandpa's speech was lost in noise. The Parliament was adjourned for the day and the family left rather disappointed. "They were not even listening to him," Prarthana said dejected while she was leaving the gallery.
