New Delhi: Retired cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar,
who recently became country’s youngest recipient of nation’s highest
civilian honour, has failed to do anything of note as a Member of
Parliament in his two years as a Rajya Sabha member.
Tendulkar, 40, is among the 12 members nominated by the President
to serve a six-year tenure in the Upper House of Parliament. The Rajya
Sabha has total strength of 242 members.
According to the information drawn from the oficial website of
Rajya Sabha, Tendulkar, along with screen diva Rekha, has not raised a
single question in the House. Besides, they have never participated in
parliamentary debates.
Also, the duo has not spent a penny for welfare measures from their
allocated fund. Every Parliamentarian, including Rajya Sabha members,
gets the stipulated amount of Rs. 5cr per year for development of their chosen area.
While Tendulkar has chosen to utilize the funds for development of
Mumbai sub-urban area- it must be noted that the star cricketer is yet
to utilize even a single paisa- Rekha has not even chosen the area of
development.
With the sporadic furore over Tendulkar getting the Bharat Ratna
yet to die down, the recent fact-check of the celebrated former
cricketer is bound to raise fresh questions about his efficiency as a
Member of Parliament.
