4G ready Aakash 4 will be out by March this year, to cost Rs. 3999


The low cost tablet that revolutionized tablet segment in India with cheaper Android tablets is entering its 4th phase this year. This tablet will land in stores this year at a price of Rs. 3999.

According to a news report in Economics Time the Minister of Communications and IT, Kapil Sibal yesterday said that the low-cost Aakash 4 will be available in the market in around one and a half months for Rs. 3999.

If everything falls into place, the tablet could be India’s first truly low-cost 4G tablet at sub-Rs. 4K price point. The tablet is expected to sport 7-inch 5-point multitouch touchscreen, with at least a display resolution of 800x400 pixels. It will also have 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal memory which can be expanded using a MicroSD card slot is expected. It will be a dual-boot tablet (through an external SD card) with the latest GNU/Linux distribution (latest Ubuntu) and Andrpod 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.




The tablet will support all popular 2G/3G/4G Phone / Data connectivity Dongles in India.

In January the government floated tendrs for the tablet which saw companies like Dell, Acer, HCL Infosystems, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Intel, Simmtronics among other 17 interested in the project.

This time Indian government is looking for multiple vendors for this budget educational tablet. Many bidders are planning to form consortia to jointly manufacture these devices according to a report in January. .

Kapil Sibal was expected to hold a press conference today at 4.00 on Aakash 4 tablet. The press conference has been is “postponed till further dates”. We will bring you more information on the project as it happens. Stay tuned.
