New Delhi: Hours after Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh made startling
revelations related to IPL spot-fixing alleging that some high and
mighty from the arena of Indian sports and politics were involved in
instances of betting and match-fixing, Justice Mukul Mudgal in his
reaction said that being a cricket fan, he wouldn`t stop watching
cricket due to a few aberrations.
Speaking exclusively to Media Corp, Mukul Mudgal said that he would continue to watch IPL, even though there would be some doubts in his mind while doing so now.
"Due to lack of time, I am never able to watch the entire season of IPL. But I will watch the matches which I find interesting. I am cricket fan. I can`t stop watching cricket as a result of a few aberrations...but there will be some doubt in everybody`s mind now."
Mukul Mudgal also demanded that the IPL to be probed by central investigation agency.
In a sting done Media Corp reporter, Vindu revealed that the entire IPL match-fixing fiasco was actually a tussle between Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar and BCCI president N Srinivasan.
Vindu further claimed that the real tug of war was between former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and Srinivasan—and Pawar was backing Modi. Naming several others, Vindu claimed that he was just a small fry in the melee.
Earlier, the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee, investigating spot-fixing and betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), had reported that allegations of betting and passing of information against Gurunath Meiyappan stand proved.
Meiyappan was the face of Chennai Super Kings, said the report while rejecting N Srinivasan`s contention that he was merely a cricket enthusiast. The team may attract provisions of termination clause under the Franchise Agreement which says that any franchisee, franchisee group company and/or any owner acts in any way that has adverse affect on the reputation of the League, BCCI/IPL, BCCI and the game of cricket.
The report highlighted that there is a conflict of interest on Srinivasan holding the post of BCCI chief and ownership of IPL franchisee, and that it is a serious issue and needs to be considered by court.
The report also said that allegations of fixing required further investigation.
The committee, which was asked to give a report, was appointed by a bench of justices A K Patnaik and J S Kehar to probe the allegation of betting and spot-fixing against Meiyappan and owners of Rajasthan Royals.
