Apple and Airtel make tech-city ride on 4G at 3G costs

Airtel customers in the tech-city Bangalore will now be able to experience the fast Internet use on mobile devices from Apple.

All the customers need to do is to change the existing sim card to a 4G sim and start HD videos and movies without even exiting your current 3G plan. For the time being the service will work on iPhone 5S and 5C only. This is because only these two handsets offer 2300 MHz frequency band for 4G services on which the service is being offered.

Those on 2G or GPRS data plans and can opt for any of the 3G plan and enjoy 4G service at 3G rates. For heacy data users Airtel has introduced a new 4G plan offering 10 GB 4G data for Rs. 1000/-.

Later we can expect Airtel to extend the service to more handsets and tablets, as more devices using this spectrum band are launched. "China has just allocated 4G spectrum in the 2300 MHz band to its operators, so there should be a lot more manufacturing of such devices," Srini Gopalan, director of consumer business Airtel reports Times of India.
