New Delhi: The central government on Wednesday told the Supreme Court
that it will not execute 1993 Delhi blast convict Devender Pal Singh
Bhullar on grounds of his health.
The decision was conveyed to the apex court after Bhullar's wife filed a mercy petition, which is in the process of consideration.The Centre has asked for 14 days time period from SC to convey the final decision in the matter. The next hearing in the case is scheduled on March 10.
Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had recommended commutation of his sentence on January 6.
Bhullar was convicted in 1993 bomb blasts at Youth Congress office in New Delhi which killed nine people. He was awarded a death penalty in 2001.
After his review petition was dismissed, he filed for mercy petition in 2003 which was dismissed in 2011.
